Approximately 15-20% of couples attempting to achieve pregnancy in the United States each year face difficulties with fertility. The likelihood of conception (achieving pregnancy) in a single cycle for a healthy young couple is approximately 20 percent. Over twelve months, the combined likelihood of achieving pregnancy is about 85 percent. It is important to know that these numbers will begin to decrease beginning in a woman's early thirties, declining even further after age thirty-five.
At the Northwest Center for Reproductive Sciences, we believe that a thorough, accurate evaluation permits us to develop the most appropriate and individualized treatment plan for each patient. In diagnosing infertility, first the specific conditions that affect you and your partner must be diagnosed.
We provide you with a comprehensive evaluation to help you determine what steps you may need to take regarding your fertility issues. After the evaluation, if you choose assisted reproductive procedures, your physician will take you step by step through the entire process and customize a treatment plan based on your needs and goals.
In many cases, there may be more than one cause of infertility, so a complete and thorough evaluation is essential. In order to recommend which treatment option is best suited for your specific problem, we must first identify the source of your problem.
Reproductive disorders can be grouped into certain types to help guide the diagnostic process. These groups include ovulation/ovarian disorders, sperm disorders (“male factor”) and pelvic structural disorders (“pelvic factor”).
In order to reach the most accurate diagnosis for each couple, we advocate the following series of tests for our patients:Female
- Antral follicle count
- Clomiphene citrate challenge test
- Timed pelvic ultrasound
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
- Hysteroscopy
- Sonohysterogram (SHG)
- Laparoscopy
