Hysteroscopic surgery involves inserting a narrow scope (hysteroscope) through the cervix into the uterine cavity. In this way, we can both diagnose and correct most intrauterine abnormalities. Hysteroscopy and sonohysterography have about the same diagnostic accuracy. But, SHG does not allow for correction of the abnormality. Conversely, hysteroscopy is more invasive. Hysteroscopy is an outpatient surgical procedure requiring sedation. Most women return to normal activity the next day. Often, hysteroscopy is performed in conjunction with laparoscopy if surgical intervention is chosen.
